The festive season of Dusshera has brought along not one but multiple treats for Indian moviegoers with films of all scales and sensibilities hitting the big screens. One of the main releases in this regard came in the form of maestro Mani Ratnam's multistarrer Ponniyin Selvan: I which, aside from attracting positive critical reviews, has also set the cash registers ringing at the global box office. Despite the tough competition from other big releases such as Vikram Vedha, the ambitious project has proven its might all over and is now well on course to create new records.

Yes, according to recent trade reports, Ponniyin Selvan: I has set the United Kingdom box office abuzz and is currently only behind K.G.F: Chapter 2 on the list of highest-grossing Indian films of 2022. The Prashanth Neel film, which released earlier this year on April 14, became quite the global phenomenon and has collected £1.15M at the UK box office: as of October 7, PS1's earnings in the UK have amounted to £1.04M and the film certainly looks very good to surpass KGF 2 in the next few days.

Ponniyin Selvan recently went past the Ranbir Kapoor - Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva and is currently placed in the second position, breathing down the neck of KGF 2. With PS1 boasting of a superb ensemble cast comprising Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, and Sobhita Dhulipala, the first instalment of the two-part film released in cinema halls amid positive hype and is said to have crossed the Rs. 325 crore mark (globally) over the course of eight days of its theatrical run.

Both Ponniyin Selvan films are said to have been made at a combined budget of Rs. 500 crores (unconfirmed) and with the first instalment already yielding great results, one could expect the second part to do similarly well upon its release.

The year 2022 has already produced several global blockbusters from India with films like RRR, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Vikram, The Kashmir Files, and other titles performing really well overseas.
