The Tamil film Sangamam was released in 1999 with Rahman and Vindhya playing lead roles. The film focuses on the clash between folk dance and classical dance forms. Rahman plays Selvam, a young Bharathanatyam dancer who falls in love with Abhirami (Vindhya), a folk dancer. The music was composed by A.R Rahman.

After Sangamam, there was a certain gap in dance-based Tamil films for almost a decade until Prabhudeva’s comeback to the screen. OTTplay picks a few films where dance is an integral element to the story.
