Rami Malek has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most talented actors in the last couple of years. But the American actor, who is of Egyptian descent, has been around for over a decade. Stunning his audiences with fresh roles that depict his immense range as an actor, Malek is definitely a gem who deserves more appreciation. His journey, which began with the role of Pharaoh Ahkmenrah in Night at the Museum, has led him to win first Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Here are five performances of Malek that are absolutely phenomenal.

2
Buster's Mal Heart
6.5OTTplay Rating
Directed by Sarah Adina Smith, Buster’s Mal Heart stars Malek as the protagonist. A mountain man, he breaks into isolated cabins to survive the winters and lives like a nomad in summers. In this mystery-thriller film, Malek depicts a man who has no stability in his life and is troubled by visions that are clouding his mind. He brings out the strangest aspects of a character who is shrouded in confusion.
3
Bohemian Rhapsody
8.4OTTplay Rating
Malek won his first Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. The actor imbibed every aspect of Mercury’s personality, having perfected every little quirk of the performer. He traces Mercury’s rise and fall, and subsequent return to the band exactly how it had happened in real life.
4
Papillon
7.6OTTplay Rating
Malek plays an eccentric counterfeiter in Papillon who forms a strong bond with the protagonist, helping him in his imprisonment. Based on Henri Charrière’s novel of the same name, Papillon gave Malek the opportunity to portray a character who eventually gives up, the dejection and sense of comfort in his state of being reflected in the actor’s nonchalant acceptance of being imprisoned for a lifetime.
5
Short Term 12
8.4OTTplay Rating
This drama film stars Malek as Nate, a new staff member at the titular home for troubled teenagers. The movie is a heart-wrenching narrative that highlights the plight of abused and neglected children and Malek’s performance as a coworker of Brie Larson’s character, who heads the facility, is subtle but impactful.
