7.6OTTplay Rating
Malek plays an eccentric counterfeiter in Papillon who forms a strong bond with the protagonist, helping him in his imprisonment. Based on Henri Charrière’s novel of the same name, Papillon gave Malek the opportunity to portray a character who eventually gives up, the dejection and sense of comfort in his state of being reflected in the actor’s nonchalant acceptance of being imprisoned for a lifetime.
Short Term 12
8.4OTTplay Rating
This drama film stars Malek as Nate, a new staff member at the titular home for troubled teenagers. The movie is a heart-wrenching narrative that highlights the plight of abused and neglected children and Malek’s performance as a coworker of Brie Larson’s character, who heads the facility, is subtle but impactful.
