Spike Lee is a cinema revolutionary in many ways. She's Gotta Have It (1986), a comedy about sexual relationships, launched Lee’s career. The filmmaker’s movies have always looked into issues of black lives in America. His filmmaking is a blend of technical nuances while making the filmmaking look carefree and unattended.

‘Spike Lee Joints’, as he calls his movies, have been a part of the mainstream Hollywood releases for many years now.

Here is a list of five Spike Lee Joints to watch to celebrate his Emmy nominations.

25th Hour
7.8OTTplay Rating
This Edward Norton-starrer is a drama about the final 24 hours of a man's life before he goes to prison for seven years. The movie gained critical acclaim after its release and was particularly appreciated for its portrayal of New York City after the 9/11 attack. The movie is gripping, from the first-morning walk to the car ride to the prison. Edward Norton implodes in the role, putting out a performance that sticks with you even after the movie is done.
Da 5 Bloods
6.6OTTplay Rating
This Spike Lee joint is a violent comedy about black lives in Vietnam. Spike Lee reinvented himself a little with Da 5 Bloods, but all the creative bits that made him unique remained in the movie. The movie is the story of an old team of black American soldiers going back to Vietnam to recover the gold that they once buried. The movie has stand-out performances from Delroy Lindo and the late Chadwick Boseman.
Red Hook Summer
5.1OTTplay Rating
Directed and co-written by Spike Lee, Red Hook Summer is a story about a pampered 13-year-old boy from a well-to-do family, who is sent to live with his preacher grandfather over the summer. The movie goes forward with the boy and the grandfather not seeing eye to eye. A pleasant watch with a few hard-hitting moments, the movie rewards the audience.
Inside Man
8OTTplay Rating
Starring a magnetic Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster, Inside man is an intricate heist thriller. The story centres around a 24-hour long heist on Wall Street. A straightforward movie that is a fun watch, is a Spike Lee joint that is a must-watch.
6OTTplay Rating
A “reinterpretation” in Spike Lee’s words, Oldboy is the official remake of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film of the same name. Starring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen, the movie is a revenge thriller that is visually more polished than the original and an enjoyable movie on its own.
