This movie of the pre-independence era could be used as the definition of magnum opus as it is indeed a true piece of art by its makers. Headlined by Gemini Products, Chandralekha deserves a special shoutout for its cinematography skills especially for a movie that is set in the 40s. Art development had a whole new meaning to that era that had an aesthetic appeal. Watching the movie, you will be more or less reminded of Baahubali, with the good prince bad prince, the latter trying to usurp the throne, having eyes for the girl and all that.
Parakkum Paavai
7.1OTTplay Rating
A well-acclaimed movie of the beloved onscreen couple MG Ramachandran and Saroja Devi, the movie provides its audience with entertainment and entertainment only. The movie is centred around the concept of the hero trying to fulfil a dying father’s wish to see his daughter one last time, who is living with her sister in a circus troupe. You will also find a lot of quirky moments when the comedian, dressed up as the clown, tries to perform a stunt that will be enjoyed by every slapstick comedy lover. The music album was composed in such a way to be in sync for circus performances like a trumpet sound in a song, for instance, that dips when a trapeze artist swings. This movie is like the hole from Alice and Wonderland, where when you enter it, you end up in a different world.
Apoorva Sagodharargal
8.1OTTplay Rating
A movie that promises you action, revenge-murder, romance, emotions and sentiment worthy to be added to your watchlist. From this Kamal Haasan starrer, you can expect ounces of clownish freakiness that is converted from being innocent to being deadly as you watch the movie (Pennywise deadly). Portraying the role of a midget (among others), he brings out the authenticity of what the circus means that will make you fall in love with it. Another interesting aspect of this film is the usage of circus props and animals to assist in the revenge murder by the midget that was a different take during the ’80s.
7Aum Arivu
6.6OTTplay Rating
It is an exceptional movie directed by AR Murugadoss, starring Suriya and Shruti Haasan. You will be able to find out how Suriya’s character as a circus entertainer (in the film’s beginning) cannot get wounded during stunts, whose dots can be connected to his ancestry. The film is credited for its attempt in trying to revive the circus form of entertainment for its audience. You can catch the actor effortlessly doing a trapeze performance, blowing fire through mouth and ball-juggling.
Mehandi Circus
7.5OTTplay Rating
A movie set in the ’90s, it is the story of a guy who falls in love with a girl whose family owns a circus troupe. The way the film had incorporated their meet-cute love story to a circus stunt, around which the story revolves, is quite exceptional. This type of circus, although not presented in a colourful way unlike the previous films, has an aesthetic touch to it that is refreshing for its viewers.
