Tom Clancy was a legend - with over a dozen best-selling spy novels under his belt, he influenced a vastly popular video game empire and movie adaptations. An author as prolific as Clancy is still inspiring adaptations of his books, the latest one being Without Remorse. Though the Michael B. Jordan-starrer is a thrilling watch, especially for action movie lovers, more of Clancy’s work has been adapted into movies that one must watch to truly immerse themselves in Ryanverse. Here are five Clancy movie adaptations that we highly recommend.

1
The Hunt for Red October
7.9OTTplay Rating
The novel that propelled Clancy to international fame was adapted into a movie by John McTiernan. Alec Baldwin plays the role of Jack Ryan and Sean Connery plays Captain Ramius. Stellar performances by both the actors etched Ryanverse onto the hearts of the audience. This submarine spy thriller is one of the best Tom Clancy adaptations ever.
2
Patriot Games
6.7OTTplay Rating
Following the success of The Hunt for Red October, a sequel emerged in the form of Patriot Games. Harrison Ford replaces Alec Baldwin as Ryan in this film. The plot revolves around Ryan dismantling a terrorist attack while on vacation with his family. The film also stars Sean Bean.
3
Clear and Present Danger
7.3OTTplay Rating
The character of Ryan assumes more responsibility in Clear and Present Danger when he becomes the Acting Deputy Director, fighting the corrupt political system. Though Ryan enters into the action later in the film, he’s unstoppable when he finally does. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Ryan, and though the film is not as celebrated as the other Clancy movies, it still forms an integral part of the franchise.
4
The Sum of All Fears
6.6OTTplay Rating
The Sum of All Fears is a prequel to Ryanverse films that were released before it. Ben Affleck stars as a younger Ryan who is on a mission to stop a nuclear war where Neo-Nazis have constructed a bomb that has already caused destruction. Though the plot deviates heavily from the original novel, the film still manages to resurrect Ryan.
5
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
6.3OTTplay Rating
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is the only reboot that isn’t based on any specific novel. It features characters from Ryanverse in an original story and traces the origins of Ryan. Motivated by the 9/11 attacks to become a marine, leaving his life as a student at the London School of Economics behind, Chris Pine plays the role of Ryan. This spy film was dedicated to Clancy, who died three months before its release.
