Royalty has always fascinated Indian viewers. Gold studded thrones, bejewelled crowns and silken robes make for a regal imagery that people cannot get enough of. Historical accuracy often takes a backseat when the mind is confronted with such exceptional visuals. Here is a list of TV shows and movies that can help viewers step into the royal life with every watch.

Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat

It depicts the trials and tribulations the emperor faced, and how he rose above them to become one of the most beloved and respected rulers. The show also features time jumps to important moments in the king’s life to include events of historical importance.

This movie centres around the event of the Third Battle of Panipat, and is essentially a war film. Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Kapoor play the two leads, who are on opposite sides of the epic battle.
Jodhaa Akbar

Jhansi Ki Rani

Chandra Nandini

This historical drama is loosely based on Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya Empire. A baby Chandra is hidden away by his mother, the queen, after his father, the king, is killed and her life is under threat. Raised by a simple couple unaware of his real identity, the series follows Chandra’s journey from an ordinary life to the throne.
