The most celebrated friendship story of Bollywood, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara celebrates its tenth anniversary this week. The movie has birthed three best friends, Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), Imraan (Farhan Akhtar) and Kabir (Abhay Deol), who amazed us with their Spain trip and made us all envy their bond. This is not the first friendship gang Indian cinema has witnessed, as we still hum ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge’, and remember how pleasingly male friendships are portrayed on the screen. While coming to female friendships, there are a handful of strong bonds living on screens, which we often forget to recognise. Here are some of them from the Malayalam movie industry, who proved how brave and beautiful female friendships could be.

1
Deshadanakili Karayila
This gem of Padmarajan has gifted us the iconic female bonding of Nimmy (Karthika) and Sally (Shari). Though the movie was not commercially successful in the ’80s, years later, during this 21st century, movieholics pondering the retro cinema aesthetics hail this as one of the first Indian films that showed womance.
