Prithviraj will once again don the khaki uniform and boots for his upcoming film Cold Case, which will release on Amazon Prime Video on June 30. The Malayalam investigative thriller has him as ACP Sathyajith. Over the years, Prithviraj has starred in several movies as a cop – but each different from the other. And it's not just in Malayalam that he has played a police officer and made a mark; he has also put on great performances as a cop in Tamil and Bollywood films. We look at the different cop roles that Prithviraj has managed to pull off with élan.

The character of ACP Antony Moses in the Rosshan Andrrews directorial is one of Prithviraj's best roles in his career. After an accident, Moses suffers partial memory loss and is tasked with putting together pieces of his memory as he retraces his past to solve a murder. The Antony Moses before the accident is an arrogant, brash cop while the one after is a guileless man who has to confront some bitter truths.

SP Sam Alex is not your quintessential cop. He is an alcoholic, who turns up drunk at work and carries the guilt of not being able to save his daughter and wife, who were murdered by a serial killer. However, another case soon presents him a chance to catch the killer. But years of dependency on alcohol have dented his skills and Sam is forced to mend his way and use his wits to catch the killer, in this Jeethu Joseph directorial.

The Mani Ratnam directorial has Prithviraj playing a shrewd police officer Dev Prakash, who is on the hunt for a bandit Veeraiya (Vikram). After the latter kidnaps Dev's wife Ragini (Aishwarya), he tries to ruthlessly track down the forest brigand. The movie has each of the three characters undergoing a plethora of emotions, and Prithviraj shines in exhibiting the grey shades of the ruthless encounter specialist.

Prithviraj in an earlier interview had said that if there was a movie of his that he would love to remake, it would be M Padmakumar's acclaimed film Vargam. The film had him playing a cold-hearted, corrupt cop named SI Solomon Joseph, whose only aim is to make money. After an incident makes him repentant of his morally corrupt ways, Solomon tries to turn a new leaf.

The reason why the caricaturish ACP Pouran from the Dileesh Nair's directorial features in this list is because of how it subverted the expectations of having Prithviraj play a police officer. Pouran, who wants to make a mark of his own by cracking a huge case. He is clumsy and delusional at times, making for some hilarious scenes as he mistakes a street performer for a terrorist and apprehends him.

Prithviraj played ACP Arya in the Atul Sabharwal directorial, which marked the second Bollywood film of both Arjun Kapoor and the Malayalam star. While the film received mix reviews, Prithviraj's onscreen presence was lauded by the critics as he brilliantly carried off the role of the brooding police officer.
