Some television shows are just so good that they leave viewers wanting more even after they end their run. The reasons viewers find themselves not quite ready to let go maybe aplenty- from the memorable premise to the characters, even the supporting ones that manage to steal every scene they’re in could find themselves in shows dedicated to their exploits.

So it comes as no wonder that several popular shows have spawned spin-offs in the last decade which have added to the legacy that their parent shows have left behind. Here are a few of the same that ended up worthy successors to the shows that they stemmed from.

Better Call Saul

With its names figuring in many ‘Best Television Series of All Time’ lists, Breaking Bad is definitely a tough act to follow. But Better Call Saul proves up to the challenge. This 2015 TV show follows the exploits of Walter White’s seedy lawyer Jimmy McGill or as he is better known Saul Goodman. The prequel series sees Bob Odenkirk reprise his Breaking Bad role as the titular character and viewers see just how small-time lawyer and con artist McGill rises the ranks of ruthlessness to get his hands on some dangerous and disreputable clients.

Most fans of The Big Bang Theory would agree that Sheldon Cooper was one of the best things about the show. So is it any wonder that the sarcastic genius would go on to get a show of his own. Young Sheldon gives viewers a glimpse into the quirky childhood of the boy genius, as he lives with his family in Texas as a nine year old. Jim Parsons, who plays adult Sheldon on the original series, serves as narrator on the prequel show.

The arrowverse was certainly a game changer for DC, giving rise to some of the best superheroes television had seen in a long time. The Flash was one of the first spin-off shows to come out of the Arrow series, and still remains one of the most popular to date. It follows the story of Barry Allen, a crime scene investigator who gains special powers after being involved in an accident, and adopts the alter ego of superhero, the Flash. The series was also a part of the crossover episodes that involved various other shows in the universe, including Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Patrick Stewart has definitely etched his name in sci-fi history after becoming the first and only person to helm the role of one of the most important characters in Star Trek: Jean-Luc Picard. The adept captain of the USS Enterprise won the adoration of Star Trek fans old and new, so much so that he got a show all to himself in the form of Star Trek: Picard. In the series the former captain is seen living a life of solitude after having left his duties behind, in the wake of a tragedy he still has trouble coming to terms with. The second season of the show will air in March.

How I Met Your Father Season 2

5.3
Who could forget the series which gave us one of the longest stories ever of a parent telling their kids about how he met their mother. And How I Met Your Father is here to do the same thing all over again, albeit with a slight difference. The series follows the story of Sophie, who is almost on par with Ted Mosby when it comes to being a hopeless romantic. And just as Ted does, she sits down with her children one day and takes a trip down memory lane, telling them the story of the events that led her to meet their father. The series stars Hilary Duff as Sophie.
