Mani Ratnam officially announced his upcoming directorial Ponniyin Selvan and also revealed that the film will be out in two parts. The first instalment for which the shooting has been happening in full swing will release in 2022. The magnum opus has an ensemble cast that includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ashwin Kakumanu, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Karthi, Kishore, Lal, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Sobhita Dhulipala, Trisha, Vikram, Vikram Prabhu and others.


This will be the fourth collaboration of Aishwarya with Mani who launched her in the movies. The actor considers the ace filmmaker as his mentor and had earlier shared excitement on reuniting with him after a decade.

The 2007 release Guru stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles. The film is touted to be loosely based on the life and times of late business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. In Guru, Gurkant Desai starts a business and then faces the wrath of a newspaper editor and his reporter. They allege that his business is booming because of corrupt practices done by his company and him.

This 1997 film marked Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's acting debut in movies. Moreover, it also marked the Tamil debut of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Iruvar is a story about two strong-headed individuals set against the backdrop of Tamil cinema and politics. The film is loosely based on the lives of MG Ramachandran, M Karunanidhi, and J Jayalalithaa, played by Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, and Aishwarya. The latter had a dual role in the film.
