Just like most of us, Mollywood actress Aishwarya Lekshmi has used her time during the lockdown to catch up on a lot of shows that she had missed out on due to her busy shoot schedule. The actress has had two direct-to-OTT releases this year – Jagame Thandhiram, which has Dhanush in the lead, and Kaanekkaane, which also co-stars Tovino Thomas and Suraj Venjaramoodu. While both had her playing serious roles, her pick of shows reflect a bit of her peppy personality while also keeping in tune with the intense roles that she has been brilliantly portraying in her movies. Here’s her list of shows that she recommends everyone must watch:

9.1OTTplay Rating
The perennial favourite sitcom needs no introduction and it’s no wonder that Friends would find a place in almost everyone’s top 10 list. The Emmy-award winning comedy series, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc, follows the lives of six friends living in Manhattan as they navigate through the adventures of adulthood.
Better Call Saul
9OTTplay Rating
The spin-off of the hugely acclaimed Breaking Bad almost rivals the original in terms of fan following, awards and story-telling competence. The crime drama series revolves around a con man-turned-greedy lawyer Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, with a parallel storyline of a retired cop who chooses a corrupt path. The award-winning show, which is arguably superior to Breaking Bad, has its writer and creator Vince Gilligan in fine form and with just 50 episodes, if you start now, you can catch up to its sixth and final season that will air next year.
The Queen’s Gambit
8.9OTTplay Rating
The period drama, based on Walter Tevis’ eponymous novel, was a favourite binge-watch in 2020 as was evident from the show topping the most popular series on Netflix in 63 countries, even months after its release. It revolves around a chess prodigy and follows her rise to the top while also showcasing her battling her demons of dependency on drugs and alcohol. Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance was universally lauded with her clinching the Best Actress Golden Globe Award for a miniseries or a TV film.
Big Little Lies
8.8OTTplay Rating
Aishwarya Lekshmi seems to be a sucker for shows inspired by literature. Big Little Lies, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel, has the heavyweight cast of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep and Zoe Kravitz. If that doesn’t convince you to watch the acclaimed dark comedy-cum-mystery drama, then its riveting storyline of the perfect lives of moms unravelling after a murder at a prestigious school should keep you glued to the screens. With multiple Golden Globe Awards and Emmy Awards, it’s no wonder that the cast and fans of the show are awaiting its third season, which is currently in development.
Modern Love
8.4OTTplay Rating
The star-studded anthology, based on essays that featured in the New York Times’ column of the same name, takes a look at unique stories of love and its trials. While the first season of the romcom had eight episodes and featured cast members such as Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Dev Patel and Andy Garcia, the second that released earlier this year, had Kit Harington, Zoe Chao, Anna Paquin and Minnie Driver apart from several well-known leading actors. With moving stories that will make even the staunch-hearted believe in love again, Modern Love makes a great watch to stir the romantic in you.
