The past year has seen Mollywood actor Roshan Mathew scale new heights in his career – with him grabbing plum roles in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. The actor, who was lauded for his characters in C U Soon and Kuruthi, will soon be making his Tamil debut opposite Vikram in Cobra and has also finished shooting for Alia Bhatt’s Darlings in Bollywood. While he admits that “its’ been a while since I have watched anything as the last couple of months have been really hectic”, the young actor lists some of the shows that he had watched during the lockdowns and recommends us to stream on OTTs:

1
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story
9.2OTTplay Rating
The financial thriller was all many could talk about after the first lockdown, when people got hooked to the OTTs. Based on the 1992 stock market scam, the Sony LIV show became its marquee series catapulting not just the platform but also its lead star Pratik Gandhi into the big leagues. The show, adapted from Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away, showcases Harshad’s rise and fall from a jobber to amassing wealthy through knowledge of stock market’s loopholes.
2
Beat
7.5OTTplay Rating
Fans of German thriller will have their heart’s worth through this series about a 28-year-old promoter of a techno club in Berlin who gets roped in by secret service for an undercover mission to bust an organ trafficking ring. The series exposes the dark underbelly of the underground party scene of Europe and also packs some gritty action sequences led by its lead actor Jannis Niewohner. With just one season of seven episodes, this one will be a breeze to watch.
3
Kidding
6.7OTTplay Rating
The comedy drama series, with Jim Carrey, Frank Langella and Judy Greer in the lead, follows the life of children’s TV presenter Mr Pickles, who is loved by the kids and parents alike. After a tragedy, he has to battle a personal crisis while also precariously balancing his professional empire. With a host of popular faces including Ariane Grande, Conan O’Brien and Danny Trejo appearing as guests, Kidding, which has two seasons, makes for a brilliant watch – thanks to Carrey’s poignant performance.
4
Mare of Easttown
8.1OTTplay Rating
Kate Winslet stars as detective Mare Sheheen, who investigates the murder of a girl and the disappearance of another in a small town near Philadelphia. As she struggles to crack the case, the townsfolk begin doubting the skills of the detective, who was once hailed a hero. Amid this, she has her own personal problems to deal with. With just seven episodes, this limited series makes for a riveting watch, thanks to its gripping writing and brilliant performances from the cast such as Winslet, Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters – all three of whom won Emmy awards for their acting.
