Ridicule is one of the powerful forms of criticism. A satire is an artistic ridicule of someone or something. Tamil political satire films address issues directly, naming them and the cause. Tamil political satire could be traced back to M.G.R. films such as Veettuku Mappilai, Aayirathil Oruvan etc.

Here is a list of handpicked Tamil political satires

Written by Manivannan, the film portrays the rise and fall of a ruthless and cunning politician. Sathyaraj plays Amavasi, a crooked man who joins as a crony in a politician's gang and rises up to crush him. A seasoned Sathyaraj perfectly depicts Amavasi who doesn't have regrets over his actions. The film also criticised the caste system and religions as systems deliberately created by leaders to subjugate their people by fear and separatism.
