Classics of Parambrata Chatterjee

Parambrata Chatterjee is a bonafide Bengali movie star, having multiple awards and recognitions in his kitty. In addition to being an actor, he is also a director and producer, with his works not only restricted to Tollywood, but extending to Bollywood with films such as Kahaani, Bulbbul and Pari.

We present to you a list of his top seven Bengali films that should definitely be in your binge-list:

1
Baishe Srabon
8.5OTTplay Rating
A psychological thriller, the movie has a simple storyline at the crux – a serial killer who leaves poems behind after the murders, and a police chase. However, this solid foundation is enhanced into a gripping tale by nuanced acting, soulful songs and fast-paced screenplay. Moving beyond the detective plot, it involves an amalgamation of multiple elements - a love story, dilemma of personal and professional commitments and the thrill of pursuit. Parambrata Chatterjee as Abhijit Pakrashi delivers one of his best performances till date with his restrained yet realistic portrayal.
2
Chotushkone
8.3OTTplay Rating
Directed by Srijit Mukherjee, the film chronicles the tale of four directors and their run-in with their past, as they go to meet a producer. It makes us realise how life is a mosaic of regrets, retributions, deeds and misdeeds, with every action having an opposite reaction. Essaying the role of Joy, Parambrata is very impressionable, making the audience relate to him throughout the story.
3
Samantaral
8.1OTTplay Rating
A heart-aching tale of discrimination, the movie delves into the taboo topic of the third gender. Mainstream cinema rarely ponders on such sensitive issues. However, Samantaral serves as an exception as it narrates the story of compassionate Sujan, played by Parambrata Chatterjee, who is neglected by his family and is kept locked in his room for his presumed mental illness.
4
Hemlock Society
7.7OTTplay Rating
A satirical story, the movie speaks of a unique institution, where willing aspirants are taught to commit suicide adeptly by instructor Ananda Kar. When Meghna enrols as a student, their lives get intertwined, changing their destinies forever.
5
Apur Panchali
8.5OTTplay Rating
A tribute to child actors all around the world, the movie is based on the true story of Subir Banerjee, who acted the part of little Apu in Ray’s Pather Panchali. Now an old man, Subir reminisces his journey as a child artiste, and his forgotten legacy. Director Kaushik’s tribute to the man is touched by grief, pathos, sympathy and redemption that brings both joy and fulfilment.
6
Kadambari
7.4OTTplay Rating
The movie is loosely based on Kadambari Devi, the young girl who was married into the well-known Tagore household as philanderer Jyotirindranath’s wife, and developed an affection for her friend and companion, her brother-in-law, the young Rabindranath Tagore. With Konkona Sen as Kadambari and Parambrata Chatterjee as Rabindranath, the deep and sincere bond between the characters is brought alive on the screen beautifully.
7
Cinemawala
7.6OTTplay Rating
A tale about the complex web of relations, Cinemawala aims to deliver a simple message of how with rapid technological advancement, we are slowly losing our traditional single-screen theatres to virtual screenings, with the touch of intimacy get lost in the process. Playing the role of Prakash is Parambrata Chatterjee, who perfectly captures the essence of the new generation and their stark ignorance of the glorious past.
