The veteran actor is often associated with her comedic roles in several films and tv series, from the Sookie of Gilmore Girls to the titular character in Mike and Molly. However, she has also appeared in films that showcased her caliber as an actress who could essay a wide variety of roles. She has recently appeared in the comedy-drama The Starling streaming on Netflix, which also features actors Kevin Kline, Chris O’Dowd, and Timothy Olyphant. The following is a list of her best performances on film and television available to stream on OTT platforms.

The action-comedy was well-received by both critics and audiences alike on its release in 2015. Melissa McCarthy plays the role of Susan Cooper, a CIA desk analyst who is called up to work in the field on a mission to thwart a global conspiracy. The film also stars Jude Law, Rose Byrne, Morena Baccarin, and Jason Statham in important roles. McCarthy’s comedic charm and excellent chemistry with the rest of the cast were crucial for the film's success.
Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Can You Ever Forgive Me? may not be one of Melissa MacCarthy’s most well-known movies, but it is easily one of her best performances. The film is based on the memoirs of the same name about writer Lee Israel, whose career had taken a turn for the worst at one point and resorts to literary forgery to make ends meet. McCarthy’s performance earned her Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

The film directed by Paul Feig, is one of the several films McCarthy and Fieg have collaborated on, including the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters and Spy

The film may not have been well received by the critics, but it was nevertheless a landmark film in terms of being an adaptation of DC’s Vertigo imprint graphic novel of the same name. The film revolves around a group of wives of Irish mobsters who take over the criminal enterprise in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Melissa McCarthy plays the lead alongside Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss.

The reboot of the 80s classic of the same name courted much controversy in the lead up to its release in 2016, for recasting with an entirely female cast. Despite the negative buzz surrounding the film, the film was well-received by the critics. The film also features Saturday Night Live stars Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Kirsten Wiig.

McCarthy plays a brash detective of the NYPD who teams up with an FBI agent portrayed by Sandra Bullock in this action-comedy. It was well-received at the box office and both actors were praised for their excellent performances. The film was also praised for its excellent mix of comedy and action.

The 2020 slapstick comedy film was MaCarthy’s first foray into sci-fi. British actor and television show host, James Corden, also stars in the film as an Artificial Intelligence named Superintelligence who befriends Carol (McCarthy), with ulterior motives of world domination.

The TV series features an impressive ensemble of Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, and McCarthy as the primary characters. The show revolves around nine strangers who visit a mysterious wellness and health resort in the hopes of transforming their lives.
