Mothers and daughters share one of the most complex relationships. At times, they are fraught with tension with suppressed grievances and resentments. While at other times, they are like that of two best friends, with a bond that runs even deeper due to blood and shared experiences.

1
Gilmore Girls
8OTTplay Rating
Rory and Lorelai Gilmore Kicking off this list with this iconic mother-daughter duo from Stars Hollow. Lorelai became a single mother at a very young age. She wants to give the best of everything to her daughter, Rory and all the experiences she never got a chance to live through. Their relationship is like that of friends and it feels as if they can read each other's minds, with spot-on comedic timings. Both of them have bubbly personalities, an obsession with coffee and enjoy similar tastes in pop culture.
2
Masaba Masaba

Masaba and Neena Gupta The show, revolving around Masaba, traces the designer's journey to stardom. The series often showcases Neena Gupta and Masaba's beautiful relationship as the real-life mother-daughter duo play a fictionalised version of themselves on screen.

Schitt's Creek
8.7OTTplay Rating
Alexis and Moira Alexis and Moira didn’t have the best relationship starting off since Moira favoured her son, David. Brought together due to adversity, the duo make an effort to patch up their relationship and come out stronger together.
4
One Day at a Time
8OTTplay Rating
Isabella, Penelope and Lydia The show traces the relationship between three generations of Latina women. Penelope is a single mother raising her two kids, Isabella and Alex while her flamboyant mother, Lydia, lives with them. It is not only hilarious but super heartwarming and educating, teaching empathy as lots of learning and unlearning takes place.
5
Jane the Virgin
7.9OTTplay Rating
Jane, Xiomara and Alba Villanueva Another multi-generational series, it follows Xiomara, a single mother, who gave birth to her daughter, Jane, at the age of 16 and has been living with her mother Alba, ever since. Due to an accidental insemination, Jane becomes pregnant. Both Xiomara and Alba guide her through as they remain like the tight knit family they are. What is wonderful to see is the stark difference between the two sets of mothers and daughters. Jane and Xiomara have a relationship synonymous to that of best friends, in part due to the lesser gap in age. Meanwhile, Xiomara and Alba constantly seem to fight as the latter tries to control the former. But over time, their relationships evolve. This comedy drama is not only heartwarming but also suspenseful with elements of crime with tons of plot twists like that of a telenovela.
6
Modern Family
