The romantic comedy genre can be a tricky and difficult one to execute. It can sometimes be overly corny and stereotypical and it can feel like the only aim is for the pivotal characters to have a happily ever after at the end. There are so many rom-coms that do not get the hype and love they deserve. Here are a few under-appreciated rom-coms we suggest you watch if you’re fond of the genre.

It's Complicated
6.9OTTplay Rating
Any movie that features Meryl Streep is worth a watch for her presence alone. But the movie also has Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin who add value to the story. This mindless, entertaining film works well as escapist pleasure for a couple of hours and even bagged several Golden Globe nominations.
Just Friends
6.7OTTplay Rating
We go back once again to Ryan Reynolds and this time we get to see him in a fat suit. When it is usually a geeky girl who transforms into a beautiful swan, this time it's Reynolds who returns to his hometown after decades. Ryan’s character discovers the idea of beauty in the movie and falls in love with his high school friend. The hilarious part of the movie is the rivalry with his younger brother.
Friends with Kids
6.4OTTplay Rating
The movie stands out for the terrific on-screen chemistry between Jennifer Westfield and Adam Scott. It is a unique concept where two friends decide to adopt a baby by remaining friends and nothing beyond that. Adam Scott's dry humour alongside a great cast should be your reason to watch this sensitive, uplifting, funny and cute movie.
Just Like Heaven
7.2OTTplay Rating
This is about a girl who is in a coma, which may sound like the plot of a bad daytime soap, but this film moves past the cliche and does a wonderful job looking at the two characters that are desperately seeking a connection. Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo’s character development and the clever dialogues make for a heavenly combination. The movie has an interesting storyline with an amazing twist and is an ideal watch with your partner.
Definitely, Maybe
7.5OTTplay Rating
Ryan Reynolds, who was the foul-mouthed Deadpool, appears in one of his best romantic comedies. The movie revolves around Reynolds, narrating episodes from his love life to his young daughter. The latter and the audience try to guess the true identity of her mother. With the charismatic lead characters and plotline, the movie is a fun, light-hearted watch.
About Time
7.9OTTplay Rating
It is about time the movie earned a spot on our list. The movie follows the charming Domhnall Gleeson as Tim who realises that he can travel through time. It is a delightfully simple, yet profoundly wise love story of interconnected souls. The film has a sincere and sentimental storyline that captivates viewers. The characters are authentic, and the dialogues are heartfelt.
