Despite the fact that the country has been finding its foot after the pandemic, Indian moviegoers had a lot of movies to choose from this year. From the likes of long-awaited horror comedy sequels like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 to engaging biopics such as Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, 2022 saw some great movies hit theatres to the excitement of the fans. But if by any chance you missed out on watching some of these movies in the cinemas, do not worry. All of them are available on OTT, so you can watch them in the comfort of your living rooms. So here are 20 great movies released in 2022 to watch on OTT. 

K.G.F. Chapter 2
Let’s start off with a big one. The much-awaited sequel to Yash’s KGD: Chapter 1, KGF 2 was one of the biggest Indian movies to date. The sequel went on to break a long list of records at the box office and reportedly made a staggering Rs. 1250 crore at the box office. While Yash reprises his role as Rocky, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty in important roles.
Yet another massive blockbuster, RRR was the second movie of the year to cross the monumental Rs. 1000 crore mark at the box office. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli who helmed the Baahubali movies, RRR stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead. The epic period action drama also has Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn playing important roles as it is one for the history books.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Bhool Bhulaiyaa starring Akshay Kumar and Vidhya Balan in the lead hit theatres in 2007, and it went on to become a cult classic. 2022 was the year the much-awaited sequel to the horror comedy released, and it did not disappoint. Starring Kartik Aaryan, Tabu and Kiara Advani, this sequel is the perfect movie to keep you company when you are alone in your house. Get the popcorn ready as well.
Gangubai Kathiawadi
Alia Bhatt keeps surprising us each year with her movies and it was Gangubai Kathiawadi that stunned us in 2022. The actor pulls off a fantastic performance as the titular character in this biographical crime drama helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Offering an array of emotions, this film is a must watch.
Runway 34
Starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh and Amitabh Bachchan, Runway 34 is Ajay Devgn’s third directorial. The movie is based on the Jet Airways flight from Doha to Kochi in 2015 which faced a lot of problems in the air due to bad weather. With good performances and decent visuals, Runway 34 is an engaging watch.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect
Based on the incredible life of Nambi Narayanan, the former scientist and aerospace engineer at ISRO, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is directed by R. Madhavan. The actor also essays the role of Narayanan in a movie that is a must watch for all Indians. The movie also has an exciting cameo by a beloved actor and it just adds to the movie’s many plus points.
Badhaai Do
Based on a lavender marriage between a school PT teacher and a policeman, Badhaai Do is a movie all Indians simply have to see. Putting the struggles of LGBTQIA+ folk in the forefront, this movie also offers a barrage of emotions to the viewers. Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar take the lead in this movie.
The second collaboration between director Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann Khurrana following their successful film Article 15, Anek is yet another movie that brings forward a very relevant issue. Set in the turbulent Northeast regions of the country, Anek is a thriller that offers a great watch.
Major is the biopic of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. This bilingual film starring Adivi Sesh, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prakash Raj invokes a number of emotions in the viewer's heart, giving a new view to life.
The Batman
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, The Batman is a standalone movie about The Caped Crusader directed by Matt Reeves. With Robert Pattinson portraying one of the best on-screen Batman’s of all time, this movie is one for all the superhero movie fans.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
MCU fans have been waiting for this a long time and it was finally delivered to them in 2022. While it was not as great as expected, it offers an engaging watch thanks to its interesting use of the multiverse concept. The movie also has some amazing cameos, which is bound to make the MCU fan in you happy.
Vikram proved that even after 50 years, Kamal Haasan can have a solid grip on the audience. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie also stars Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi. Paving way to the “Lokesh Cinematic Universe”, Vikram also has a powerhouse cameo that makes the movie multifolds better. A must watch if you love Kamal Haasan.
While this Kangana Ranaut-starrer failed at the box office, Dhaakad offers a great watch to everyone who is a fan of the Hollywood spy movies. Kangana plays a powerhouse lead in the movie and the action scenes are all executed to near perfection. A good watch if you love a movie where bullets fly and knives do the talking.
Jugjugg Jeeyo
Jugjugg Jeeyo was a movie that won hearts all over this year, thanks to a lovable story revolving around a fun family. Starring Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Kiara Advani, this family entertainer can do no wrong. A great watch if you have some time in your hand and want to blow out some steam.
This social comedy has a great plot that could simply force you to watch it. An uneducated politician is set to prison where he decides to earn himself some knowledge. Abhishek Bachchan takes the lead in this movie and does a fantastic job. The movie also stars Yami Gautam, and Nimrat Kaur in important roles.
Janhit Mein Jaari
Starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, this comedy drama follows a woman in a small town in Madhya Pradesh who sells condoms. The movie takes on an important subject as it shows the pressure she faces from her family and society as well as all the social taboo.
Jayeshbhai Jordaar
Starring Ranveer Singh and Shalini Pandey in the lead, this comedy drama follows a man who would go the extra mile to protect his family after his parents decide to get rid of an unborn child after they learn that it is a girl. Also starring Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah in important roles, Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a great watch.
The Kashmir Files
One of the biggest Bollywood winners of the year, the outstanding success this exodus drama received came as a surprise to all. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the movie revolves around the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s. Bitterly real and graphic, this film also received mixed reactions after claims about its inaccuracies of facts.
A remake of the highly-successful Telugu movie of the same name, this Hindi remake stars Shahid Kapoor. The sports drama follows a man in his 30s who does everything it takes to get back into the national cricket team to make a promise come true. An endearing watch, Jersey becomes a must watch for all sports fans.
Samrat Prithviraj
Samrat Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar in the lead was a highly-awaited release, but failed to really become a hit following its release. Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood and Manushi Chhillar in her acting debut, the movie is based on Prithviraj Chauhan. A decent watch for anyone who is into the country’s history.
