From Kushi to Nenjam Marappathillai: SJ Suryah movies to celebrate his birthday

SJ Suryah, who always wanted to be an actor, began his film career as a director, with the 1999 film Vaali, which went on to be a huge success. He made his acting debut with the 2004-film New, which he had also produced and directed. The multi-talented SJ Suryah has recently been able to stamp his authority in the film industry as an actor by playing and perfecting his roles such as in Spyder and Mersal. As the actor, writer, director, producer and composer celebrates his birthday, we take a look at six of his films to watch.

Written and directed by Atlee, Mersal is an action thriller that stars Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Akkineni, Nithya Menen. Maaran (Vijay), a reputed doctor is wrongfully arrested for a murder. He then understands the culprit is his lookalike brother, Vettri (Vijay), a magician who looks to avenge the death of his parents. A movie that delivers a strong message is a must watch. SJ Suryah plays the antagonist and is a force to reckon with.

Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is an intelligence officer who uses mobile software to track down and help people in need. He comes face to face with Bhairavadu (SJ Suryah), a serial killer on the loose. This Telugu action thriller is written and directed by AR Murugadoss.
8.4OTTplay Rating
Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, this crime drama tells the story of three men who choose the path against the law because of their failing financial stability and how their wives have to lead an independent life after they are sent to prison. The film has an ensemble cast of Vijay Sethupathy, SJ Suryah, Bobby Simha, Kamalinee Mukherjee and others.

This romantic comedy written and directed by SJ Suryah is a Tamil classic. Shiva (Vijay) and Jenny (Jyothika) are helping set up their friends. In the process, they develop feelings for each other, but fail to communicate this. The movie is a culmination of love, hurt, heartache, action and much more. The blockbuster movie went on to be remade in several languages.

Mariam (Regina) returns as a ghost to a household where she worked as a caretaker to exact revenge against people who sexually assaulted and murdered her. This horror film written and directed by Selvaraghavan sees SJ Suriyah play Ramsay, the antagonist who you root for to die.

Anjanam (SJ Suryah) respects all forms of life and does not believe in hurting or killing any life form. He moves into a house with the goal of getting married one day. However, before he can achieve his goal, he has to try and get rid of a rat that is constantly pestering him in his house. Add to this, a criminal who lived in the house before him returns to find stolen diamonds he had hidden away in the house. The movie also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar and Karunakaran.
