Dystopian series and movies can give us a glimpse into the harsher realities of how our world can digress into a few years down the line. There might be tons of scientific advancement but at what cost? Environmental destruction, power imbalance with power becoming concentrated in the hands of a few which leads to even more marginalisation of minorities or a deadly virus decimating most of the population are some of the topics dystopian series deal with.

Take a look at some of the most mind-blowing dystopian series on OTT platforms right now.

Made for Love
7.2OTTplay Rating
What if you could see from your partner's eyes? Both literally and metaphorically. When recluse tech millionaire, Byron implants a chip into his wife, Hazel, without consent, which allows him to monitor her emotional levels 24/7, track her location and even look at her surroundings through her eyes. After 10 years of marriage, living far away from society, the chip is the final nail in the coffin for Hazel as she breaks out of the house and runs away to her childhood home. It is a dark comedy with a focus on tech advancements, a mad rich person and a woman’s struggle to regain her independence.
The Handmaid's Tale
8.7OTTplay Rating
One of the best shows out there right now, The Handmaid’s Tale with its too close to home tones, portrays a horrifying reality that can come to pass. Set in the future, the show revolves around Gilead where birth rates have plummeted. This leads to subjugating women into the roles of handmaids, planted in a rich family, in a life of servitude. Their main responsibility is to give birth to children from affluent families. It is a compulsive watch as June, our protagonist, fights for not only her life but other handmaidens. Inarguable, it is one of the best books to screen adaptation as well.
The 100

Due to a nuclear catastrophe, Earth has been rendered inhabitable for many years. A civilisation meanwhile stays afloat in a spaceship. The series is full of twists as these delinquents discover what is left of Earth and involve a lot of survival action, acid rains, bunkers and in between all the fighting, our main characters find time for romance.
Black Mirror
8.9OTTplay Rating
The Black Mirror, an anthology series, might be one of the quintessential series on the dystopian and science fiction lists and for good reason. Each episode deals with a topic seemingly set in the future, which feels like a reality just waiting to happen which will boggle your mind. The show just might give you an existential crisis.
5.2OTTplay Rating
In this post-apocalyptic world, there is a scarcity of water and clean air and a totalitarian regime ruling the country with communalism is also rife, to “keep the bloodlines clean”. The story focuses on Shalini’s search for her daughter Leila, who was taken away from her at a young age.
Altered Carbon
8.5OTTplay Rating
