October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti as it marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 2021 marks the 152nd birth anniversary of Gandhiji and he is honoured for his role in Indian Independence. When it comes to movies, over the years several filmmakers have given their rendition of Mahatma on the big screen. Be it a biographical film or a satirical take on his life. In these many decades, movies based on Bapu has received acclaim not only in the country but also internationally. 

Moreover, many actors namely Sir Ben Kingsley, Naseeruddin Shah, Annu Kapoor, Rajit Kapur, Dilip Prabhavalkar and many others have portrayed the role of Mahatma Gandhi onscreen.

The film went on to win eight awards at the Oscars that year including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.
