Ajith Kumar is one of the few actors who has a massive fan following despite being old-schooled and a reserved star. He hardly gives any interviews to media to promote his films, before and after the release. Yet, he has a loyal fanbase, who fondly call him Thalapathy. Ajith started his career as a supporting actor in a Telugu film before breaking out with the Tamil thriller Aasai in 1995. Since then, the actor has appeared in a number of films and has become one of Tamil cinema's highest-paid actors. He has received four Vijay Awards, three Cinema Express Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Kumar is also a biker, who has raced in the MRF Racing series. He is one of the few Indians who has raced in both the International and Formula championships. Kumar's big debut in the Tamil cinema industry came with Aasai. As Jeevanandham, Ajith Kumar plays the lead in this romantic drama. The plot revolves around a young guy who falls in love with his sister-in-law and attempts to halt her affair with another young man. It features Prakash Raj in an antagonist role and Rohini, Poornam Viswanathan, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Vadivelu in supporting roles. The film, directed by Vasanth and produced by Mani Ratnam, received positive reviews on release and went on to become a commercial success at the box office. It was later remade in Hindi as Pyaar Zindagi Hai, starring Ashima Bhalla, Vikas Kalantri and Mohnish Bahl in the lead roles.
