Naomi Watts has certainly made a name for herself as one of the most established actresses Hollywood has to offer. Born in 1968 in England, Watts moved to Australia in her teens and had taken up a multitude of jobs before she was bit by the acting bug.From a somber childhood to a slow start as an actress with her film debut in 1986, Watts has shrugged off past remnants of a struggling career to earn her place among the big names of the film industry. Ever since she had her first big break with a David Lynch directorial , she has not looked back, putting up conviction filled performances which have led to her being nominated for the Academy Award twice. She has made a name for herself with taking on hard hitting, tragic and emotive roles designed to push an actor to their limits, with each of her performances more raw than the last.

King Kong

The story follows an ambitious film crew, who make their way to the island and have to face off against the monster. Watts stars as Ann Darrow, an aspiring actress pushed to penury who develops a unique and touching relationship with Kong and earns the trust and protection of the beast. Her performance as the headstrong young woman who develops the unlikeliest of bonds is captivating to say the least.
The Ring

A remake of the 1998 Japanese film Ring, this film tells the story of a cursed videotape that spells doom to all those who watch it within the span of one week, finding its latest victim in an American journalist who must race against time to protect herself and her young son from the clutches of the entity that haunts the tape. Watts stars as Rachel Keller, a journalist in whose hands the tape falls when it claims her niece’s life. Her portrayal of the spunky woman, who would not consider facing off against dark forces to save her child is definitely one of the highlights of this gripping, sinister film.
The Impossible

Based on the real life 2004 tragedy of the Indian Ocean tsunami, The Impossible tells the tale of a vacationing family whose holiday takes a turn for the worse as they are met with the disastrous event. Watts stars as Maria, the matriarch of the family who sustains grievous injuries in the aftermath of the disaster. Her role was based on the real life survivor of the tragedy María Belón. Watt’s powerful performance as the iron-willed woman, not one to lose her cool even in the face of the ordeal, won her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Sunlight Jr.

Watts’ portrayal of the desperate woman, inching close to penury, captures the harsh reality of several young people whose life is spotted with such difficulties. Her performance and her chemistry with her co-star was the subject of praise.

Watts stars as the young man’s mother, whose perfectly sculpted idea of how virtuous her son is slowly starts to unravel. Her emotive and raw portrayal is sure to resonate with every viewer.
