Sarathkumar, the “Supreme star” of Tamil cinema has been out of the limelight in the past few years. The people of South know him not only as a film star, but as a politician and a journalist too. He is one of the first A-lister in Kollywood to play a transgender in Muni 2: Kanchana.

For the last few years he has selected supporting roles such as Jaya Janaki Nayaka and Bharat Ane Nenu. But before that there was a phase where his stardom was only rivalled by Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He was loved by family audiences for his mature roles and the youth for his cop roles. Sarathkumar plays a double role as village head and his younger brother Pashupathi, who is accused of an illicit relation and murder. Nattamai expels him from the village. Now it is up to Pashupathi to clear his name. He has to find the original culprit before time runs out. Nattamai was remade in Hindi as Bulandi with Anil Kapoor.

It’s considered one of the best family movies in Tamil. Sarathkumar plays a double role in the film as father Sakthivel and son Chinnarasu. Sakthivel hates Chinnarasu because of a misunderstanding and throws him out. Years later, Sakthivel unknowingly bonds with a little child who is Chinnarasu’s son.
Thenkasi Pattanam
A direct remake of the Malayalam film with the same name. Sarathkumar plays Kannan who is devoted to his best friend Das. Problems arise when Das falls in love with Meenakshi, Kannan’s love interest. Kannan also supports him thinking that he has fallen in love with someone else. Now who will clear the air?
Arasu arrives at Kumbakonam one fine morning. Everyone takes a liking to him because of his calm and kind nature. But then he shocks everyone by murdering a man in cold blood. Who is Arasu? What is the cause of his bloodlust? The rest of the film answers this.

Sarathkumar plays ACP Muthusamy who takes on a corrupt politician played by Tanikella Bharani. In his pursuit of the corrupt, he loses his wife and is left with his daughter. Muthusamy makes a powerful comeback along with his aides played by Laila and Vadivelu who make up for comic relief.

Sarathkumar is in another avatar in this Raghava Lawrence horror comedy. Although he plays an extended cameo, he takes on the role of Karthik or Kanchana who is a transgender. Kanchana possesses Raghavan to exact vengeance on people who killed her.
