But among the plethora of genres he has dabbled in, the Bollywood heavyweight seems to have a soft spot when it comes to action flicks, as a quick glance at his recent filmography can reveal. It would be safe to say that the National Award-winner has earned his place as an action hero in the industry, with some of his high-octane work not only becoming a hit with fans but also setting fire to the box office. And he shows no signs of slowing down either, with films such as Tiger 3 in the pipeline.

On the star’s birthday. here are a few action films where he gives some no holds-barred performances.

Karan Arjun

They were murdered in their previous lives by a greedy relative who wanted their inheritance and were brough back as a result of their grieving mother’s prayers. When they realise their destiny, the two come together to exact revenge. Khan essays the role of Karan Singh, who gets reincarnated as Ajay, who reunites with his brother in an unlikely encounter and soon discovers that they each have a bigger destiny to fulfil. Khan’s stellar performance in the film coupled with his chemistry with co-star Shah Rukh Khan makes the film a must watch.
Ek Tha Tiger
The first instalment in the Tiger film franchise, this 2012 film tells the story of how love comes in the way of a top RAW agent’s sworn duty. The film tells the story of the titular spy, agent Tiger(Khan), who goes on an undercover mission only to fall in love with a woman he befriends, Zoya. He gets the shock of his life when he realises that the woman is in fact an intelligence officer from Pakistan, and he is forced to make a choice between love and his duty to his nation. The perfect blend of action and romance, the film features some well made action sequences as well. The film spawned a 2017 sequel, with the third instalment currently in development.
Khan dons khaki in this action comedy flick, the first instalment in the Dabangg film series. The film opened to adulation for its performances and fast-paced action and was remade in Tamil and Telugu. The 2010 film also spawned two sequels, which saw Khan reprise his role as the popular character.
This 2014 film saw Khan take on the role of a man who pushes the envelope when it comes to the term ‘ adrenaline junkie’. The film traces the story of Devi Lal Singh, a man who gets a ‘kick’ out of partaking in dangerous and bold deeds. The more daring the deed, the better he feels about himself. This leads him down a perilous and unlawful path, one that even makes him forsake romance. This highly entertaining action flick will definitely be a treat for Khan’s fans, as he stands out and steals the show in every scene that he’s in.
Wanted is the Hindi remake of the 2006 Telugu film Pokiri. The film tells the story of a ruthless gangster with a mysterious past who is one of the most feared hired assassins in the underworld.
