There may be few stars who presently have a stronghold on the Kannada film industry as Yash has. From humble beginnings to one of the biggest sandalwood superstars- his story inspires and intrigues.

The superstar was bitten by the acting bug very young, getting his start as part of a drama troupe on the heels of finishing his studies. After making a name for himself on the small screen as part of several television channels, the star ventured into film and has not looked back since. Post his film debut in 2008’s Moggina Manasu, Yash has established himself as a sought after leading man in several films that followed, his Midas touch turning his ventures into box office blockbusters. The star is currently awaiting the release of K.G.F: Chapter 2, the sequel to his hit 2018 film.

As the Rocking Star, as he is fondly called by his fans, turns another year around the sun, here is a list of his films where he has put up phenomenal performances.

K.G.F: Chapter 1
8.1OTTplay Rating
Arguably one of the most popular fan favourite films of the Rocking Star’s career, this 2018 film broke the box office to become one of the highest-grossing Kannada films of all time. Set in the 1970s, the film traces the journey of a man named Rocky, born into penury, who becomes a shrewd and feared gangster working for the kingpins of the Kolar Fields gold trade. When he is tasked with assassinating the ruthless inheritor of the trade network, his eyes are opened to the brutality subjected by his bosses on the worker population and he decides to do something about it. Yash stars as Rocky, his role in the film making him a household name in the whole country. The sequel to the film is scheduled to be released sometime this year.

Like a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet, Kiraathaka tells the story of a young man and woman who fall in love, despite coming from villages that have a bitter rivalry between them. An aimless young man seems to have found meaning in life when he falls for a charming young girl in his neighbouring village. But his love story becomes riddled with problems because his and his beloved’s villages have a long-standing bitter rivalry with each other, one that even their deep bond can’t seem to fight through. Yash is charmed as the young man struck by cupid’s arrow, his efforts at doing all he can to win his lady love sure to touch audiences with its sweetness.
Mr And Mrs Ramachari
7.6OTTplay Rating
Featuring Yash sharing the screen with his real-life wife Radhika Pandit, this 2014 film is the quirky love story of an unlikely pair. Ramachari is a short-fused college student and film buff with a special place in his heart for the actor Vishnuvardhan. Divya is a sweet and soft-spoken student at Ramachari’s college and the two meet when the latter saves the former from a gang of ruffians. But their love story is rife with obstacles both due to their conflicting natures as well as their disapproving families. Yash gives a delightful performance as the hot-headed young man and his chemistry with Pandit is on point.
Santhu Straight Forward
7OTTplay Rating
This film reunites Yash and Radhika Pandit on screen yet again and is a love story sprinkled with elements of action and drama. The film revolves around the story of a young man named Santhu who falls in love with a woman named Ananya. What would have been a simple tale of love is made complicated when it is discovered that although Ananya reciprocates his feelings, she is engaged to be married to a ruthless gangster. Yash steals every scene he is in as the man ready to punch above his weight in the name of love, making the film a must-watch for his fans.
One’s youth is a time when one never falls short of having delusional dreams, making mistakes and losing one’s way, but a group of friends take it dangerously far in the 2011 film Rajadhani. The film tells the story of a group of five friends who find themselves entangled in some dangerous messes. Yash stars as Raja, a young man who finds himself a murder accused as a result of some unwise decisions he makes with his friends. The film serves as a cautionary tale to parents on how guiding children at a young age is invaluable to developing their characters.
