Indian-Americans have successfully made forays in a variety of fields, even making prominent strides in the entertainment industry. They have become titans in comedy, in particular, becoming the minds behind several well-received slapsticks. Here is a list of works by some well-known Indian creators, each of which is guaranteed to make you audibly guffaw.

Master of None

Aziz Ansari made a name for himself as the quick-witted government servant in Parks and Recreation. Master of None is a comedy series co-created by the Indian-origin actor featuring himself as the lead in the first two seasons. Ansari plays the role of Dev, an actor struggling to make it in New York and the series follows his professional and personal pursuits. The third season features Lena Waithe in the lead, cast as a novelist.
The Mindy Project

The rom-com The Mindy Project stars Mindy Kaling, who has established herself as a driving force behind fan favourite shows such as the Office. Kaling plays the role of Mindy Lahiri, an OB/GYN obsessed with rom-coms in pursuit of a fairy tale romance herself. She also has close friends who are loving, although outlandish in their antics. The show ran for six seasons.
Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King

Homecoming King is Hasan Minhaj’s first comedy special, which earned him a Peabody Award. The special includes anecdotes and experiences from Minhaj’s personal life, growing up with Indian-American, Muslim parents. He talks about the pressures he faced growing up, as well as instances of bullying and racism that plagued him and his family.
Russell Peters: Almost Famous

Canadian born Indian-origin comedian Russell Peters is perhaps best known for his hilarious stand-ups, in which he incorporates themes of racism, stereotypes and multiculturalism. He borrows a lot from his own experiences, coming from an immigrant family. In his Netflix special Almost Famous, he makes use of his audience-favourite ethnic humour, to bring the house down.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

In this chaotic comedy, Kal Penn plays Kumar, an intelligent but lazy stoner, best friends with Harold. This movie follows the two, meeting after being estranged for two years in the quest for a rare Christmas tree they accidentally destroy. The film also stars Neil Patrick Harris, as a fictionalised version of himself.
The Big Bang Theory

Kunal Nayyar made a name for himself in American television with his role as awkward astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali on the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory. The series follows the lives of four socially inept friends, all working at Caltech, and a waitress they befriend, who aspires to have a successful career as an actress. Nayyar’s performance was a fan favourite.
