Direct-to-OTT films won big this year at the 52ndKerala State Film Awards with movies such as Fahadh Faasil’s Joji and Shane Nigam’s Bhoothakaalam clinching top honours including Best Director, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. Even Minnal Murali, which was the biggest Malayalam release last year, was lauded for its technical excellence while Jeo Baby’s anthology Freedom Fight too got a special jury mention. Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam, which released in theatres this year, also took the awards for Best Popular Film and Best Music Director.
