PK starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma

Even though India and Pakistan are pit against each other, love transcends all as it knows no boundaries or borders. Several shows and films by both countries have produced great content portraying cross-border love and humanity stories. A recent web series Dhoop ki Deewar by Pakistani actors Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir showcases humanity, unity and a beautiful love story, creating awareness and spreading a message of anti-war.

The Hindi film industry too has stepped forward and always set an example of love and unity between the two nations with its exceptional storylines. Here are some of the best offerings of cross-border love stories from Bollywood:

1
Veer-Zaara
7.9OTTplay Rating
One of the classic cross-border films, Veer Zaara tells the love story of an Indian pilot Veer (Shah Rukh Khan) and a Pakistani woman Zaara (Preity Zinta). Veer ends up in a jail in Pakistan and Zaara who believes that he is dead, moves to India to live in his village, honouring the wishes of his late parents. A Pakistani human rights lawyer played by Rani Mukerji helps him unite with the love of his life. The film that talks about humanity, sacrifice and the power of love will get you teary-eyed. It went on to win the Filmfare Award for the Best Film that year.
2
Sardar Ka Grandson
4.3OTTplay Rating
This is the latest cross-border story from Bollywood. Featuring Neena Gupta, Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, John Abraham, Aditi Rao Hydari, the film is a story about a man who tries to fulfil his grandmother's last wish of being able to see her ancestral house in Lahore, Pakistan. Directed by Kaashvi Nair, it offers a fresh premise with a humorous take on a serious issue, addressing the conflict between the two neighbouring countries. The feel-good drama was not very well received at its opening but can make for a good watch with family on a weekend.
3
Total Siyapaa
5.2OTTplay Rating
The Hindi rom-com directed by Eeshwar Nivas is yet another light-hearted film that narrates a cross-border love story between a young musician Aman (Ali Zafar), who is settled in London and his Indian girlfriend Asha (Yami Gautam). But their love story hit crossroads when Asha's parents realise that Aman is a Pakistani. It breezes through sensitive issues like PoK, terrorism and Shahid Afridi with decent humour. The film directed by Eeshwar Nivas received mixed responses but can make for a fun watch.
4
Bajrangi Bhaijaan
7.8OTTplay Rating
Not actually a cross-border love story, but the film shares a heartwarming story of an Indian man who tries to get a young speech-impaired girl, found lost in Haryana, back to her home in Pakistan. The 2015 comedy-drama, directed by Kabir Khan, stars Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan Harshaali Malhotra and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. A simple story of love and unity is a delight to watch and will certainly leave a great emotional impact on you.
