He could look the sweetest one and turn 'Angry Young Man' the next moment. Yes, Jr, Bachchan aka Abhishek Bachchan, who made a remarkable Bollywood debut with JP Dutta's Refugee two decades back, is our pick of the day.

After seeing him in movies like Bunty Aur Babli, Dhoom and Guru, it would be safe to say that the actor shines through many genre films - whether romance, action or drama.

Here's looking at some of the three-time Filmfare Award winners' underrated performances...

1
Ludo
7.4OTTplay Rating
Right from the word go, Bachchan, in the role of Bittu in Ludo, came as a surprise package. He supressed all of his feelings and still, found the one thing he wanted in life - to be able to protect someone like a father. Ludo was a film based on four stories - of a former criminal (Bittu, played by Abhishek Bachchan) trying to live a happy family life, a woman who's marriage hangs by a thread (Sanya Malhotra as Shruti Choksi), a lover who would go to any extent to make his sweetheart happy (Sattu and Pinky Jain played by Rajkummar Rao and Fatima Sana Shaikh), and two people who have gotten lucky financially (Rahul and Sheeja aka Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney). It is the story of how they get tangled in each other's life and eventually, come together for an engaging climax. The Anurag Basu directorial is a Netflix original film.
2
Manmarziyaan
7.4OTTplay Rating
Manmarziyaan was a film where all actors - Vicky Kaushal (as Vicky), Taapsee Pannu (as Rumi) and Bachchan (as Robbie) - could explore their acting prowess to the fullest. Bachchan, especially, came as a surprise package as a man who is true to himself and his different shades. The Anurag Kashyap directorial dealt with the concept of commitment. It portrayed two men, both having different personalities from one another and yet are Rumi's pick. Manmarziyaan cab be viewed on Amazon Prime Video.
3
Happy New Year
5.4OTTplay Rating
Bachchan did not play the central character in Happy New Year, but he totally stole the limelight as Nandu Bhide, who is a member of 'Dimond' dance group. Happy New Year was the story of a gang of robbers planning their next heist to take revenge from a fellow robber. The film, directed by Farah Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone (as Charlie and Mohini respectively), is available on Netflix India.
4
Dhoom
6.5OTTplay Rating
The Dhoom series constantly had a new antagonist (John Abraham as Kabir, Hrithik Roshan as Aryan Singh and Aamir Khan as Samar and Sahir), but the protagonist of the film i.e. ACP Jai Dixit (Bachchan) remained constant. By Dhoom 3, the actor also showed why he deserves the ultimate spot (he flew in an auto rickshaw, come on!) The Dhoom series follows the stories of robbers who set off to conduct various heists, sometimes in order to get revenge. Dhoom, Dhoom 2 as well as Dhoom 3 can be viewed on YouTube.
5
Paa
7.4OTTplay Rating
Bachchan played a brief but power-packed role of Amol Arte in the critically-acclaimed film, Paa. He played the role of the father of Auro, a child suffering from a rare disease called progeria. Despite being the child's father, Arte was never around him due to his political commitments, which led to strong emotions among viewers. Bachchan also produced the 2009 release, starring his father Amitabh Bachchan as Auro. Paa, a movie which stirred up many emotions among viewers, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. The film revolved around the life of Auro. The viewers got to see the world from his perspective, thanks to Paa. Unfortunately the movie is not available for streaming on OTT yet.
6
Yuva
7.6OTTplay Rating
Even when Bachchan played one of the lead male actors, Lallan Singh, in the film, his role and acting is not much spoken about. The actor left quite an impact through his performance in the film. Yuva, directed by Mani Ratnam, follows the story of three men - Bachchan (as Singh), Vivek Oberoi (as Arjun Balachandran) and Ajay Devgn (as Michael Mukherjee), whose lives change after an incident at Kolkata's Howrah Bridge. The three students decide to enter politics after the incident in question. The film, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan (as Mira), Rani Mukerji (as Sashi Biswas) and Esha Deol (as Radhika), is streaming on Netflix.
