Raima Sen’s Bengali films you must watch on OTT right away

Raima Sen is back, this time with the web series The Last Hour. She plays a mysterious character on the show which also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Karma Tapaka and Shaylee Krishen in the lead roles.

Raima, who has been a popular face in the Bengali cinema, recently made headlines for her Bengali film Tarikh’s release. The actress, by her own revelation, received her first Critic’s Choice award for Tarikh at the Hyderabad Film Festival.

Here are a few Bengali films that had her showcasing some stellar performances:

Baishe Srabon

In Baishe Srabon, Raima played the role of a TV journalist. Her character Amrita Mukherjee is dating detective Abhijit Pakrashi (Parambrata Chatterjee), who is leading a case involving a serial killer in the film. Baishe Srabon, which means death anniversary, is a relevant title as the day of Rabindranath Tagore’s death anniversary plays a significant role in the film. Raima won her first award at the Shoilojanando Mukhopadhyay Memorial Award for the movie. The film can be viewed on Amazon Prime Video.
Dwitiyo Purush

Dwitiyo Purush, the sequel to Baishe Srabon, saw Raima reprise her role of Amrita, who is now married to Abhijit. However, their marriage has hit a rocky road. The Srijit Mukerji directorial draws parallels between a case in 2019 and 1993. The engaging movie can be viewed on Amazon Prime Video.
In the National Award-winning film Tarikh, Raima plays Ira, a hotel lobby manager. The Churni Ganguly directorial focuses on three stories - that of professor Anirban (Saswata Chatterjee), his childhood friend Rudy (Ritwik Chakraborty) and Ira. Tarikh is available on Hoichoi.
Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish

Chitrangada is a story inspired from Mahabharat’s character and also Rabindranath Tagore’s play named Chitra. The movie narrates the tale of choreographer Rudra Chatterjee (Rituparno Ghosh, also director of the film) who is struggling with his gender identity. In the film, Raima played the role of Kasturi, who introduces Rudra’s love Partho (Jisshu Sengupta), a drug addict, to their dance group. Chitrangada won the Special Jury award at the 60th National Film Awards. The film can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Rituparno Ghosh’s Noukadubi is a film inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s 1906 novel of the same name. In the film, Raima plays a naive lover, Hemnalini. She keeps waiting for her partner Ramesh to return to her, till she finds the truth about him one day. The film, which had an open ending, was much discussed. It also went on to win a National Award for Best Art Direction. The movie can be viewed on Amazon Prime Video.
Chokher Bali

In Chokher Bali, also based on Tagore’s book, Raima played the role of Ashalata. The film revolved around her character and Binodini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). The story, which is full of distrust, adultery, lies and fallout, is narrated by Asha. The Rituparno Ghosh directorial won three National Awards - for Best Feature Film in Bengali, Best Costume Design (Sushanto Pal, Bibi Ray) and Best Art Director (Sharmishta Roy, Indranil Ghosh). The movie can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
