A Soldier's Story, directed by Norman Jewison in 1984 is a crime drama movie which revolves around the murder of Vernon Waters, a black master sergeant. Captain Richard Davenport who is a black man from the Judge Advocate General's Corps, is sent to investigate the murder.
Most people think it is the doings of the Ku Klux Klan. Davenport is given three days by commanding officer Colonel Nivens to wrap up his investigation. Davenport learnt that Waters was everything but nice to his race , especially to the ones from rural areas.
He even posed C.J for murder and forced him to hit a senior officer which got him sent to jail where he suicides. Peterson and Smalls were the only people on guard duty the night of Waters’ murder.
Smalls ends up confessing to the murder and tells them that Peterson killed Sergeant Waters, as revenge for C.J.’s death
