Ahed's Knee

The internationally co-produced drama is directed by Israeli screenwriter and film director Nadav Lapid, who is well renowned for his 2014 film The Kindergarten Teacher. His 2019 film Synonyms is a Golden Bear award winner at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. Starring Avshalom Pollak, the plot follows the life of a prominent Israeli filmmaker called Y, who is coping with the news of his mother’s unanticipated terminal illness. After throwing a fit of rage when a government employee slaps restrictions on his freedom of speech at the screening of his movie in a remote desert village, he struggles to grapple with his loss of freedom and the constant anxiety of losing his mother. Apart from Pollak, the cast includes Nur Fibak, Yoram Honig, Yonathan Kugler, Lidor Ederi, Amit Shoshani, Yehonathan Vilozni, Naama Preis, Ortal Solomon and Mili Eshet, Oded Menaster, and Netta Roth. The film shared the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival with Memoria by Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
