The film looks at the transformation of the city of Baku at the turn of the twentieth century. It was once a pulsating international city with constant global transactions and interactions by virtue of it being an outpost of the Russian empire. The violent revolution gradually obliterated all economic prospects and stunted the further development of the city. It burrows into the city that was popularised by Kurban Said in his 1937 romance, Ali and Nino.
