Hacksaw Ridge, a 2016 movie, is directed by Mel Gibson, streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. It is a biographical war and drama film, starring Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, and Teresa Palmer.
Teresa Palmer, who ends up in the role of Dorothy, Doss’ wife, was highly desperate for a role, and even auditioned via her iPhone and sent the recording to Mel Gibson, against which She heard nothing back for three months.
The movie is set in rural 1920, Virginia when the young Desmond Doss nearly kills his brother during roughhousing. Fifteen years later, Doss, played by Andrew Garfield, meets Dorothy Schutte while helping an injured man and falls in love with her, expressing his interest in medical work.
This movie is based on a documentary that emerged in the year 2004, The Conscientious Objector by Terry Benedict. It explores the character of Desmond Doss, who becomes a part of World War Ⅱ but refused to carry or use a weapon or firearm of any kind.
Towards the end of the movie, during the Japanese counterattack over the Americans, Doss manages to save Glover and others by deflecting enemy grenades and rescues 75 soldiers at Hacksaw Ridge.
