Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja

Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, a 2009 movie, is a biographical action movie, directed by Hariharan and produced under the banner Sree Gokulam Films. This Malayalam movie is based on the life of Pazhassi Raja, who clashed against the British in the 18th century and showed his valor through several wars. The plot and the exceptional storyline not only won this movie eight Kerala State Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards South, but also a handful of National Film Awards. Mammootty, in the title role, depicts the story of Pazhassi Raja, who had to leave his throne due to the East India Company. This movie marks the return of Pazhassi with his new warfare tactics against his enemies. This 2009 film received a good deal of awards, appreciation, rave reviews and was well received by the viewers. While the 90-year-old Shankara Varma, the present head of the family, accuses Hariharan of not portraying the image of Pazhassi Raja as it was, the director denies every other controversy saying that he had referred eight to nine books for this project.
