The Third Generation

Set in the winter of 1978 in West Berlin after the murderer Paul is killed by the police, a gang of ineffective middle-class German radicals, closely tied together by their politics and covert conduct, go underground. Peter Lurz, a representative of a US computer company, is taken hostage by the young terrorists. On 13 May 1979, The Third Generation made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. It featured in the Un Certain Regard category and was hailed as the most thrilling of the festival by French and American critics alike. The film was written and directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, starring Harry Baer, Hark Bohm, Margit Carstensen, Eddie Constantine, and Jürgen Draeger, among others.
