Adarsh Gourav's Vibrant Performance Drives This Bold Story Of Rags To Riches
Aka The Revenge Of Ramu Kaka, Starring Adarsh Gourav, Priyanka Chopra And Rajkummar Rao
‘The White Tiger’ did not inspire much enthusiasm in us and had us believe that it is but another dramatic retelling of an outsider’s understanding of India.
Priyanka Chopra does her bit, though her American-desi rebellious ‘bahu’ is a bit fuzzily dealt with. But the film belongs to Adarsh Gourav, who channels that very specific, razor-sharp mixture of obsequiousness and rage, to come up with a stellar performance.
The White Tiger is set in 2007 and captures some of the headiness of the decade’s promise of overnight economic success.
Ramin Bahrani's film embraces the book's upper-caste take on caste, but deletes several scathing passages by Aravind Adiga that reveal the hero's disdain for Hinduism.
