Thader Katha

Directed and Co-written by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Tahader Katha is a Bengali drama film released in 1992. The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Dipankar De, Anashua Mujumdar, Subrata Nandy, Deboshri Bhattacharya and Ashok Mukherjee. The storyline of this film represents the life of Shibnath, performed by Mithun Chakraborty. Shibnath, a freedom fighter who was in jail for 11 years for murdering a British officer during the fight for India’s Independence. After 11 years as he comes out, everything has changed. India got independence in 1947 and there was partition. His family is living in the rural area of East Bengal with the help of his comrade, Bipin Gupta, performed by Dipankar De. The film shows the struggles of Shibnath and how he has to accept the changes but he retreats into a shell. The movie won awards for the Best Feature Film in Bengali and Best Actor (Mithun Chakraborty) at the National Film Awards in 1993.
