A week ago, Vinay Rajkumar had his first theatrical release in almost four years. Unfortunately for him, the film was the long delayed Pushkar Films production, 10, the release of which was announced one week before the date, with absolutely no promotions in the lead up to it.
According to sources, producer Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah had sold the digital rights of the film to Amazon Prime Video and the deal stipulated that he bring 10 to theatres soon, so that it could then drop on the platform before the end of December. This, add sources, is why Pushkara released 10 in such a tearing hurry in the most limited manner possible. The film has now started streaming on Prime Video.
10 is the directorial debut of Karm Chawla, best known as the cinematographer of Rakshit Shetty’s Kirik Party. The film is the realistic portrayal of a young and promising boxer from an underprivileged background, who fights his way to glory. Once successful, he is surrounded by those looking at profiting of him, which lands him in career-jeopardising trouble – he fails a dope test and is suspended from the sport for a year. Obviously, everyone who swooped in at the height of his success, dropped him in no time. Can he then find his way back into the sport and regain his lost glory? This is what Karm’s film is about. 10 also stars Gopalkrishna Deshpande and Anusha Ranganath in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, Vinay is eagerly looking forward to his next, Pepe, his first gangster flick, which he says is likely to release in the first quarter of next year. After that he has Andondittu Kaala, a film in which he plays a filmmaker. His film Graamaayana, which was stalled after the producer passed away of Covid last year, has apparently found new backing from Tagaru and UI maker KP Sreekanth.
