Sushant Singh Rajput's 2019 release Chichhore won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala received the award on behalf of the team and dedicated it to the late actor.
Chichhore, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, starred Sushant as a father dealing with a teenage son suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. The film also starred Shraddha Kapoor, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Varun Sharma in pivotal roles.
In a statement, Sajid shared, "A moment of pride for all of us at NGE today as we've received the prestigious National Award for Chichhore! Thank you Nitesh Tiwari for this special movie! We're really grateful for all the love and dedicate this award to Sushant Singh Rajput."

The actor was seen in Drive opposite Jacqueline Fernandez after Chichhore. His last ever film to release was Dil Bechara, which launched Sanjana Sanghi as an actor and Mukesh Chhabra as a director. However, Chichhore remains his last Hindi film to release on the big screens.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut and Manoj Bajpayee were also honoured at the National Film Awards. Kangana received the Best Actress Award for Manikarnika and Panga. On the other hand, Manoj Bajpayee won the Best Actor Award for Bhonsle. Tamil actor Dhanush also won the Best Actor Award for his movie Asuran.
Dhanush's father-in-law and megastar Rajinikanth was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke award at the 67th National Film Awards. Vice President M Venkaiah and Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, were seen conferring him with the title.
The National Film Awards took place in Delhi, two years after the COVID-19 lockdown.
