Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Aanand L. Rai’s debut collaboration Zero didn’t quite land as everyone expected it to resulting in the 2018 movie becoming one of the biggest flops in the industry.
In the aftermath of the movie’s box office failure several reports emerged that not all is well between the star and the filmmaker and while before the film’s arrival it was rumoured that they duo could collaborate once again after Zero.
In a recent interview, Aanand L. Rai who finally marked his return after Zero with Atrangi Re and earned his reputation back was asked about his plans of collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan again. The filmmaker told India Today, “We are working really hard to reach him now, we are working towards it. Maybe it will take a few more years or if tomorrow we have a story which he likes, we will be there. He is all heart."
Zero’s failure has been a lesson for all parties involved and commenting on it writer Himanshu Sharma who has worked with Aanand on both Zero and Atrangi Re spoke about how SRK taught him how to take failure in a stride.
"Khan saab (SRK) used to say this, 'there will be many people that you work with who talk about success but nobody can teach you failure better than Shah Rukh Khan and I am telling you that never lose this madness.' We owe this to him and that is why we never shied away from telling another tricky story. We could have easily gone to a very easy subject, but we stayed true to what we are, Himanshu told the publication on why him and the filmmaker attempted another tricky film after the failure of Zero.
For now, Aanand L Rai has his focus on his next with Akshay Kumar titled Rakshabandhan while Shah Rukh is busy with Pathan. The superstar will reportedly be seen working Rajkummar Hirani’s next along with a project with Atlee which he has already begun work on.
