Remakes and sequels of films are a tricky business-- while some may work out better than their successor, others fall flat on their faces. Then there are those which win our heart and also avoid any sort of comparison with the original. Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Aashiqui 2 falls in the third category. Their on-screen chemistry and the story-line left us in awe. The songs, on the other hand, became chartbusters. Despite a few mixed reactions, Mohit Suri’s romantic musical drama did pretty well.
Sadly, Aashiqui star Anu Aggarwal was left disappointed by her film’s spiritual successor. In a chat with ETimes, the former actress was quoted saying, “Aashiqui 2 released during the time when I was not really watching any movies but I did know about it. I was like 'Wow, now there will be Aashiqui 2!', but I had thought it was a sequel to the previous one, but I was told that's not the case and that they have just used the same title but the film was completely different. That was a bit disappointing. However, Aashiqui itself was a very popular film.”
Last year there were reports that Sidharth Malhotra will reunite with his Kapoor & Sons co-star Alia Bhatt for Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 3. The filmmaker had confirmed that he was working on a script, but clarified that a star cast had not been decided yet.
