Just days after the release of her spy thriller Dhaakad, Kangana Ranaut is springing back into action on the work front. The actress has already started on the pre-production work of her upcoming film, Emergency.
Ranaut took to her official Instagram handle to share the news, posting a photograph of her working with the crew of the upcoming film. The actress captioned the post, “Marching on …preproduction day in the office #EMERGENCY”.

In addition to starring, Ranaut will also direct and produce the project. The upcoming film will mark Ranaut’s first solo directorial venture. The actress had earlier been a co-director on the 2019 film, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, in which she also starred.
The upcoming film will reportedly revolve around the Emergency period in the country that took place in the 1970s, under the Indira Gandhi’s government. Ranaut will essay the role of Gandhi in the upcoming film, which is written by Ritesh Shah. The actress had earlier shared a post on her social media handles where she is seen with a team trying to get the late Prime Minister’s look right for the movie.
Meanwhile, Ranaut was last seen in Dhaakad, which was released in theatres on May 20, coinciding with the release of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Early reports indicate an unsuccessful run for Ranaut’s film at the box office.
In addition to Ranaut, Dhaakad also stars Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Razneesh Ghai and bankrolled by Asylum films, Soham Rockstar Entertainment, and Sohel Maklai Productions.
