Ajagajantharam is one of the several films expected to release this week as theatres reopen in Kerala. The state government’s decision to ease lockdown restrictions in the state is a welcome relief to theatre owners and filmmakers after a statewide closure of all public screening venues since April. The new James Bond blockbuster will be the first film to be screened in the grand reopening of theatres across the state. Ajagajantharam, along with several regional Malayalam films, will follow suit.

Who are the filmmakers of Ajagajantharam?

Tinu Pappachan, who made his name as an acclaimed assistant director in well-received films such as Angamaly Diaries and Jallikattu, will helm the project in what would be his second feature directorial after the success of Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. Ajagajantharam is expected to have similar aesthetics in terms of cinematography and setting as the aforementioned Angamaly Diaries, Jallikattu, and Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. Kichu Tellus and Vineeth Vishwam, who played supporting roles in Angamaly Diaries, are the writers of this film, while Jinto Simon, who also worked on Angamaly Diaries as assistant cameraman will be in charge of the film’s cinematography. The music department has been entrusted to Jakes Bejoy, who has previously worked on hit films such as Ayyappanum Koshyum, Operation Java, Ranam, and Ishq.

Who are the actors in Ajagajantharam?

Antony Varghese, who shot to fame after his debut in Angamaly Diaries, will play the lead in the film. Actor Chemban Vinod Jose, who wrote the script for Angamaly Diaries, will reunite with the rest of the crew in a prominent role in the film after collaborating with several of them on various other projects as well. Sabumon Abdusamad and Jaffer Idukki will play supporting characters alongside writers Kichu Tellus and Vineeth Vishwam.

Ajagajantharam is Antony Varghese’s second film after Aanaparambile World Cup that is expected to release in the coming weeks.

What is Ajagajantharam about?

The story is set in a town called Aranjali in the midst of its annual temple festival. The film charts a series of events involving an elephant, a group of theatre actors, and a notorious criminal that lead to utter chaos in the town. It has all the elements to make it an engaging action-comedy.
