The film was earlier set to release during the Dussehra weekend this year.
One of the most awaited films of Ajay Devgn is Maidaan which is set against the backdrop of the golden era in Indian football. In the film, the actor-filmmaker plays the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Earlier, Ajay had announced that the film will hit the screens during the Dussehra weekend that is, October 15, 2021. Now, the actor has announced a new release date and the film is premiering on the silver screens on June 3, 2022.
While making the announcement, Ajay wrote on his social media pages, "Maidaan, A story that will resonate with every Indian, a film that I feel very strongly about. Mark the date on your calendar. Releasing worldwide on 3rd June 2022."
In the film, the actor will be seen alongside Priyamani and Gajraj Rao. Maidaan is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma who earlier directed the 2018 release Badhaai Ho. While Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla are the producers.
Earlier, during a group media interaction for Bhuj: The Pride of India, when Ajay was asked to give an update on Maidaan, he had said, "We need to complete it. It's a brilliant film, shaped up so well. Fabulous and it would be one of my best films, I can say that."
Meanwhile, before Priyamani, Keerthy Suresh was roped in to play the female lead. However, makers had released a statement regarding her replacement. It read as "Keerthy shot for the film for a day. After the shoot, the makers and Keerthy both felt that she looked too young as she had lost a lot of weight since being signed for the film to authentically portray the role of a mother as has been written in the script."
Ajay had earlier announced the release date of his directorial MayDay also featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh.
