The makers of the film had considered the direct-to-OTT release option for many months

Akshay Kumar-starrer Bell Bottom will now officially release only in the theatres. The movie was consistently in the news about opting for a direct-to-OTT release in recent months. Denying the same, the makers have released a statement today confirming that it is headed for a theatrical release.

Akshay took to Twitter to share the news that Bell Bottom will release in theatres on July 27. The actor had also introduced his character on the micro-blogging platform. “I know you have patiently waited for #Bellbottom! Couldn’t be happier to finally announce the release of our film. Arriving across big screens worldwide #BellBottomOn27July,” the actor shared on June 15.

Bell Bottom was previously slated to release in April 2021. The Ranjit M Tewari-directed thriller was significantly shot in Scotland and was one of the earliest Hindi films to have resumed shooting after the COVID-19 pandemic. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles. It is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani.

Bell Bottom is only the second Hindi film to have announced a theatrical release date since the second wave of COVID-19 hit India, the first being Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai that made it to theatres and on OTT simultaneously. The film didn’t create much noise at the box office but worked better on the OTT platform.

Apart from Bell Bottom, Akshay also has Sooryavanshi, Atrangi Re, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Housefull 5 and Crack in his kitty. Sooryavanshi, which is the third instalment in Rohit Shetty’s cop franchise was also looking for a theatrical release but there has been no announcement about it from the makers yet.
