The 14th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will begin on August 11. The festival will screen big Bollywood films with the world premiere of R Balki’s Ghoomer which features Abhishek Bachchan, Angad Bedi, Shabana Azmi, Siyami Kher, and others. Besides, it will also screen Karan Johar’s audacious Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which has Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in it.
Besides the big Bollywood films, three Bengali feature films – Saibal Mitra’s A Holy Conspiracy, Indrani Chakraborty’s Chhaad, and Indrasis Acharya’s Niharika, and two short films – Somnath Mondol’s Ghasir Banshi and Pubali Chaudhuri’s Chithi will be screened at the festival.
A Holy Conspiracy is a courtroom drama that features two legends of Indian cinema –. Soumitra Chatterjee and Naseeruddin Shaw.
Chhaad which features Paoli Dam, Rahul, and others was earlier screened at several festivals, including the prestigious Festival de Cannes, Palais G, Marché du Film.
Indrasis’ Niharika, which traces a young woman's journey, was just released in Kolkata. The film had its world premiere at Adelaide Film Festival in October last year.
Besides Bengali films from India, there are entries from Bangladesh as well. Chanchal Chowdhury and Shohel Mondol’s Pett Kata Shaw will also be screened at the festival.
This year, the festival will honour Kartik Aaryan with the Rising Global Superstar of Indian Cinema Award. Besides, Karan Johar, Bhumi Pednekar, and others will also be honoured at this year’s festival, which will take place from August 11 to August 20
