The language debate has taken the internet by storm with many celebrities too sharing their views on the issue. And most recently, the Anek actor Ayushmann Khurrana has also opened up about his thoughts on the north v/s south films and the whole debate on the language.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Ayushmann said that importance cannot be given to just one language when there are several languages spoken in India. He said his film happens to become 'topical' as it has a scene that talks about the language, demography and different kinds of people residing in India. "And it was just an important question in the film what does it take to be an Indian. And I really feel that you cannot really give importance to one particular language. This is not that country because it’s multilingual," he told the portal.
He added that every language and every citizen are important in a multilingual country. "Even in Indian cinema or generally in life we at least mix three languages. Like in the film, if I am shooting in UP, for example, I will be mixing Hindi, Urdu and Brajbhasha or khadibol. In Bombay, they mix Hindi, Urdu and Marathi or Gujarati," he said, adding that every person usually doesn’t speak any one language in its pure form. There is a mish-mash of three languages and so, how can one language be given importance?, he asked. He also said, "This is not a country that can be run by having just one language."
Ayushmann Khurrana's film Anek hit the theatres today and has opened to rave reviews. The film marks the second collaboration of the actor with director Anubhav Sinha. The two have previously worked on Article 15. The film was too well received by the fans and critics alike.
